Conventional versus Bamboo toothbrushes or why the little everyday choices matter
In this article we’d like to compare conventional vs. bamboo toothbrushes. In order to do so, we’d tell you about the composition of both.
Conventional toothbrushes (the majority of which we see everyday at shops & pharmacies) are made from a combination of plastic (made from crude oil) and rubber for the handle, nylon for the bristles, and a mix of plastic and cardboard for the packaging (EcoPlanet Bamboo,2015).
Because of their composition, they cannot be recycled and consequently, remain in landfills. If they’re burnt, they release a combination of toxic and greenhouse gases. If they end up in rivers, seas or oceans, they’re either washed away on beaches or eaten by the marine life. In the US alone there are between 850 million and a billion toothbrushes thrown away every year, imagine what happens in Australia, Asia, Europe, etc. (EcoPlanet Bamboo, 2015).
The good news is that there is an alternative to this damaging product- bamboo toothbrushes! For example, we’re in love with Nordics’ bamboo toothbrushes.
They’re 100% biodegradable. The brush is made of MOSO bamboo which regenerates quickly and it’s the only type which is not consumed by endangered pandas. Bristles are made of recycled, biodegradable nylon and the packaging is made from recycled cardboard. As sustainable as it gets!
May knowledge inspire us to choose eco-friendly products, showing love and respect to both – ourselves and our planet!
