Did you know that the average woman uses around 17,000 plastic period pads for her lifetime. And none of these pads is recyclable so they all end up in landfill where they decompose for…800 years.
It’s pretty grim, isn’t it?
You don’t need to be part of these statistics, now there are plenty of reusable menstrual products such as cups, sponges and our favourite cloth pads.
In this article we’ll talk about how to take care of these #zerowaste beauties
What shall I do after I purchase an Ecofemme cloth pad?
You can handwash it or do a 30-40 degree machine wash. Washing your cloth pads makes sense not only from a hygienic point of view but also because washing cotton cloth improves its absorbency rate after 2-3 washes. Before you hang your cloth pads to dry, pull them from both ends to prevent potential shrinking.
What washing up powder/liquid shall I use?
You can use the same one you use for washing your clothes, bedding sheets, towels, etc. You can also use any soap bar that you like, we personally love the Vegan Marseille soap, eliminates stains in no time.
How do I keep my pads stain-free?
Soak every used pad in cold water with some washing up soap bar/powder/liquid for half an hour before washing.
How do I keep my cloth pads soft?
We’d recommend to dry them in direct sunlight. However, when that isn’t an option, you can put them in the tumble dryer at a low heat. You can also soak them once in a while in cold water with a little bit of baking soda, vinegar or lemon juice and a drop of essential oil of your choice.
How often should I change my cloth pads?
This is very individual depending on your flow and the type of a pad you’re wearing but the manufacturing company, Ecofemme, recommends changing your pad every 4-6 hours.
I can’t figure out which type of cloth pads should I wear, what should I do?
